There are only about 10 homeless people at Joseph's House before dinner and Garner surveys them all. Protesters are gathering, and while mostly peaceful a handful have clashed with police. He didn’t have the money for the operation but booked the date anyway. The antidote to this is not to train the workers, but to change the conditions of work. From our experience at Sheltered by Grace, another large group that makes up homeless in Australia are single men over the age of 30. Originally broadcast on PBS, Oct. 17, 2002. 60 min. Permanent supportive housing — a model of housing developed in New York City that combines affordable housing with support services for individuals and families living with mental illness or other disabilities — has been proven to reduce homelessness AND save taxpayer dollars otherwise spent on costly shelters and hospitalizations. Nearly one-half of those with mental illness also have addiction disorders (categorized as "dual diagnoses") (Rosenheck, et al, n.d.).
